ON THE HILL GANG LOS ANGELES (OHGLA) - ACTIVITIES
SKIING (January thru April)
Skiing has been the primary activity of our club and was the common interest that rallied its founders. Our schedule features monthly mid-week trips to Mammoth during the season, with the relative absence of crowds and weekend snowboarders. For non-skiers or those who want to take a day off from skiing, we have recently added snowshoeing to our Mammoth winter activities.
HIKING/URBAN WALKS (First Saturday)
Our hikes take us into the local mountains or seashore, are two to three hours in length, and often loop to offer continually new terrain and visual interest. We have recently added "Urban Walks" on alternating months to take advantage of our area's interesting history and architecture. The activities are leisurely paced to allow us to focus on our surroundings. We select a picnic spot or nearby restaurant for lunch. Favorite outings? Too numerous to describe.
Extended Hiking TripsOvernight hiking adventure trips of 4-6 days are often organized. For many years we had an annual six day hiking trip to Mammoth over the Labor Day holiday. Other trips trips have included Salida, Colorado, and Mt. Hood, Oregon.

BIKING (Second Saturday)
From May through December our bike rides generally keep us on paved surfaces and away from traffic and range from 12 to 22 miles in length with average speeds from 8 to 12 miles per hour. Rides conclude in the early afternoon with lunch after the ride or on the return leg of the route. Some of our favorite rides are the Orange Line to Porto's in the Valley, the South Bay bike path between Torrance Beach and Santa Monica, Long Beach to Huntington Beach, and the West Fork of the San Gabriel River..
Extended Biking TripsClub trips of 2-6 days duration are often organized, with recent destinations of Monterey, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, Ventura/Ojai, and Santa Barbara.

KAYAKING/SUP (Third Saturday)
Third Saturday events are scheduled during the summer, usually for the morning hours when the wind and water are calm and are appropriate for both novice and more seasoned kayakers. Lunch usually follows at a nearby restaurant. We have combined Standup Paddleboard (SUP) with our kayak activities. Past adventures have included Alamitos Bay, Catalina, Channel Island caves and Upper Newport Bay.
SOCIAL & CULTURAL EVENTS
Major social events include our summer picnic, and Fall Gala (annual meeting). Ethnic dining and socials are scheduled in many months, as are art and cultural events to such places as the Getty, Broad and other museums and places of interest in the greater Los Angeles area.
